headword   คือ   คำหลัก,คำที่เป็นตัวหนาที่สุดที่อยู่หน้าหรือเป็นคำที่เราค้นหา
world  class  คือ   เป็นการบ่งบอกถึงลักษณะ หน้าที่ ของคำศัพท์นั่นว่าเป็นอะไร  เช่น  noun , verb , adj.
definition / meaning   คือ  ความหมายของคำศัพท์นั้น อาจมีความหมายมากกว่า  1  ความหมายก็ได้ ซึ่งจะมีตัวเลขกำกับเอาไว้ว่ามีกี่ความหมาย
phonetic spelling     คือ  การอ่านออกเสียงของคำศัพท์นั้น
example sentence คือ  ตัวอย่างที่หัวข้อบทเรียน : แนะนำตัวอย่าง (โดยใช้"ตัวอย่างเช่น"และวลีเช่น"ตัวอย่างเช่น") ที่เป็นตัวเอียง
homophone คือ คำที่ออกเสียงเหมือนกัน แต่เขียนไม่เหมือนกันความหมายต่างกัน
homograph  คือ   เป็นคำที่ เขียนเหมือนกัน แต่มีความหมายต่างกัน มีที่มาต่างกัน บางครั้งออกเสียงเหมือนกัน  แต่บางครั้งก็ออกเสียงต่างกัน
compound word  คือ   คำ  2  คำที่สามารถรวมกันแล้วมีความหมายได้หรือคำสองคำรวมกันแล้วมีความหมาย
entry  คือ  เป็นข้อมูล ขอบเขต ของความหมายของคำศัพท์นั้นๆ

Root Prefix Suffix


  root คือ รากศัพท์ หรือส่วนที่สื่อความหมายหลักของคำ  ขอแบ่งรากศัพท์เป็นสองประเภทนะคะ (แบ่งตามใจฉัน^^) 
1. รากศัพท์ที่มาจากภาษากรีกหรือละติน ประเภทนี้มักมี prefix หรือ suffix มาประกอบจึงจะเกิดเป็นคำที่มีความหมายในภาษาอังกฤษ เช่น 
  
รากศัพท์ -vis- เราคงไม่เคยเห็นมันอยู่ลอยๆ เป็นคำศัพท์ที่ใช้ในประโยคทั่วๆ ไป
-vis- เมื่อไปประกอบกับ prefix หรือ suffix ความหมายจะเกี่ยวกับการดู การมอง การเห็น

ลองเปรียบเทียบกับภาษาไทย เผื่อจะเข้าใจมากขึ้น -vis- ก็เหมือนคำว่า "ทัศน์" ซึ่งไม่อยู่โดดๆ (ยกเว้นเป็นชื่อคน) จะต้องเอาไปประกอบกับส่วนของคำอื่นๆ ซึ่ง "ทัศน์" สื่อความหมายเกี่ยวกับ การมอง การเห็น ตัวอย่างเช่น วิสัยทัศน์ ทัศนะ ทัศนวิสัย ทัศนียภาพ เป็นต้น  เป็นไงคะ เป๊ะเลยไหม เหมือนกับ -vis- เลย กระจ่างขึ้นไหมคะ
2. คำศัพท์ทั่วไปที่มีความหมายสมบูรณ์ในตัวเอง เช่น frog, coffee, web, eat เป็นต้น
จำตัวอย่าง root ในหนังสือได้หรือเปล่า ทวนกันหน่อย

การวิเคราะห์คำศัพท์ บางทีก็ทำให้เราเห็นที่มาของคำศัพท์นั้นชัดเจนขึ้นลองนึกถึงอาชีพ 2 อาชีพ waiter กับ secretary
คำว่า waiter ที่แปลว่า พนักงานเสิร์ฟ เด็กๆ ดูตัวคำศัพท์ดีดี waiter มาจากคำว่า wait (รอคอย) แล้วเติม -er (suffix ที่เติมแล้วหมายถึงคน) รวมกันเสร็จสรรพ คือ คนที่รอคอย นึกถึงพนักงานเสิร์ฟที่ยืนรอเราสั่งอาหาร เหมาะสมสำหรับคำว่า waiter เลยใช่ไหม 
ขอออกนอกเรื่องอีกนิดคำว่า "บ๋อย" ที่เราเรียกกัน น่าจะมาจากคำว่า boy ที่ฝรั่งใช้เรียกพนักงานเสิร์ฟที่เป็นผู้ชาย แล้วเพี้ยนมาเป็น "บ๋อย" ฮาดีเหมือนกันพี่ไทย
อีกหนึ่งอาชีพคือ secretary (เลขานุการ) มาจากคำว่า secret (ความลับ) บวก -ary (suffix) อาชีพเลขาก็ไปกันได้กับผู้กุมความลับของเจ้านายใช่ไหมหล่ะคะ
   prefix คือ หน่วยของคำที่เติมหน้าคำศัพท์หรือรากศัพท์  แล้วความหมายเปลี่ยน

ex-(ออก,นอก)          = export (ส่งออก)
   suffix คือ หน่วยของคำที่เติมไว้หลังคำศัพท์หรือรากศัพท์  แล้วมักเปลี่ยนชนิดของคำ (parts of speech)
ขอยกตัวอย่างบางตัวนะจ๊ะ ที่เหลือไปทวนเองในหนังสือนะจ๊ะ อย่าขี้เกียจนะ จะสอบแล้ว

ส่วนใหญ่ adv. คือการนำเอา adj. มาเติม ly แต่ไม่เสมอไป คำบางคำลงท้ายด้วย -ly แต่เป็น adj. เช่น friendly, lovely เป็นต้น
